We have the pleasure to host the next Infinite Horizons’ seminar on October 9th, 2024. Our host will be Prof. John Bosco Habarulema from the South African National Space Agency. Prof. Habarulema will talk about Recent Results on Geomagnetic Storm Effects on Ionosphere and Ionosonde Capabilities.
Seminar's abstract:
Ionospheric response during geomagnetic storms has long been understood as largely characterized by increase and decrease in ionospheric parameters such as electron density. These are termed as positive and negative storm effects, respectively. Complete understanding of ionospheric response during storms (and where physical mechanisms take place with respect to altitudes) require continuous observations in time highlighting the role played by ground based instruments such as ionosondes and incoherent scatter radars. Recent results show absence of echoes from ionosonde observations necessitating a combination of observations and modeling to provide a complete picture of the dynamics involved during geomagnetic storms.
