The 3-dimensional accurate representation of ionospheric electron density remains a difficult problem due to the varying nature of horizontal and vertical structures in different latitude regions. This becomes more complicated during geomagnetically disturbed conditions. Most empirical models available for this problem are climatological in nature and usually physics-based models are computationally expensive. This talk will discuss efforts underway to reconstruct a global 3-dimensional electron density model applicable during both quiet and disturbed conditions. The basis of the model is the combination of radio occultation electron density profiles and ionosonde data up to maximum height of the F2 layer; aided with machine learning techniques.
